Due to business growth, a successful Midwest energy client has asked us to identify a Long Range Planning Engineer. This individual will report to and work closely with the VP Strategy.
The Planning Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of development of large, long range projects for the entire corporation including scoping, feasibility studies, economic evaluation, and front end engineering.

Job Description
Primary Function:
Position is responsible for all aspects of development of large, long range projects for the entire corporation including scoping, feasibility studies, economic evaluation, and front end engineering prior to handing off to project implementation personnel. Candidate will need to interface with and supervise consultants and engineering contractors to be able to leverage their resources to maintain schedule. Individual will work closely with VP - Strategy and economics and planning department in development phase while engaging operations project representation to ensure seamless project handoff. Individual will be well positioned to advance into several potential positions including economics and planning or relocating to plant operations or support.
Essential Functions:
Develops project scope definition with minimal input and document same. Scope definition can include written description, drawings, list of deliverables, and definition of project hand off to project personnel.
Develops "requests for proposal" for engineering studies including problem definition and identification of deliverables. Must be able to clearly communicate objectives both written and verbally.
Proactively solicits consultants and/or engineering contractors to leverage their resources to meet schedule. Must be able to compare proposals and bid documentation. Integral part of selection process of consultant and engineering resources.
Coordinates multiple projects/studies including supervision of consultant/engineering contractors; engaging operations representation as needed; and providing feedback as appropriate.
Develops and delivers power point presentations to upper management and board of directors to provide updates or requests for capital expenditures.
Develops screening economic models to support prioritization of projects and potential business development opportunities. Works with economics and planning personnel to finalize project economic evaluations in support of project approval.
Travel will average 30% or more as projects require. Expectation is that individual will travel to facilities minimally every other month to ensure proper engagement with operations personnel.
Qualifications and Attributes:
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.
5 - 10 years refining industry experience with at least one assignment in process engineering and one assignment in refinery operations.
Experience in refinery economics and planning and PIMS operation and programming is a plus.
Self-starter with critical thinking skills and be intellectually curious.
Must be well organized and be able to manage multiple projects including consultants and/or engineering firms.
Articulate with excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills.
Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power Point.
