Job Summary
  • Appointment Length: 10 months; August 1 – May 31
  • Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer, ACI, Instructor
  • Rank: Staff with rank of instructor (non-voting rights)
  • Team Assignments: Football Assistant, Women’s Basketball, Cheerleading, Rowing, Assist with Volleyball
  • Courses: ATEP 370: Exercise Physiology (fall), ATEP 213L: Prevention & Care Lab (spring)
  • Or other classes as assigned
Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Services Responsibilities
  • Ongoing communication with the Coordinator of Clinical Services regarding athletic training services and medical care
  • Demonstrate compliance with the Athletic Training Policy & Procedure Manual and assist with periodic review
  • Assist with medical services and all appropriate administrative work as coordinated with the Coordinator of Clinical Services, including but not limited to:
    • Practice and event coverage and additional clinical services
    • Appropriate referrals and referral network
    • Coordination of team physicians (referrals, weekly visits, and home event coverage)
    • Facility and equipment care and maintenance
    • Inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment
    • Claim forms for secondary athletic insurance for submission to the Athletic Department
    • Comprehensive medical files of student-athletes
  • Provide quality athletic training services to athletes, including, but not limited to, prevention, evaluation, assessment, rehabilitation, conditioning, referral, and documentation for assigned sports and other sports as needed (travel with football, post-season travel with all teams)
    • Demonstrate compliance with the Athletic Training Policy & Procedure Manual
    • Maintain and update student-athlete medical records in a timely manner
    • Serve as an Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI) for athletic training students by providing instruction and evaluation of Athletic Training Educational Competencies, utilizing the clinical environment to develop the clinical skills, clinical reasoning, and clinical proficiency for athletic training students
  • Remain current in best practices and current issues/trends within the profession
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively within the department
  • Demonstrate appropriate professional behaviors
  • Perform other duties as outlined by the Coordinator of Clinical Services and Department Chair
Academic Responsibilities
  • Faculty member (non-voting rights) in the Athletic Training Education Program, housed in the Department of Athletic Training and Division of Health Sciences
    • Content areas: Physiology of Exercise and Prevention & Care Lab (1 course in the fall, 1 course in the spring)
    • Incorporate Athletic Training Educational Competencies, department, and university outcomes as they pertain to the respective teaching areas
    • Demonstrate a commitment to clinical instruction and teaching excellence and service, meeting minimum standards set forth in the Faculty Appraisal System and the Personnel Action File (PAF) document (e.g. faculty/staff development opportunities, committee service)
    • Participate in student research, independent studies, and case studies
  • Serve as an Approved Clinical Instructor (ACI) for athletic training students by providing instruction and evaluation of Athletic Training Educational Competencies, utilizing the clinical environment to develop the clinical skills, clinical reasoning, and clinical proficiency for athletic training students
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively within the department
  • Assist Program Director with maintaining accreditation and department responsibilities, or other duties as outlined by the Program Director and Department Chair
