This is routine work safeguarding school children in crossing City streets.
An employee in this class is responsible for protecting school children at dangerous traffic points on heavily traveled City streets by walking with groups of children across an intersection or by stopping traffic to allow children to cross the street.
Work is normally performed independently and usually for short periods of time at the beginning and end of each school day.
Walks with children across heavily traveled streets or stops traffic to allow the passage of children to and from school. Uses authorized signals to regulate vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Notes violations and reports to Police Department. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.
Ability to detect possible danger to children crossing streets. Ability to work in the open under adverse weather conditions. Ability to deal successfully with children, Police, and the general public. Ability to exercise mature judgment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
