T he incumbent of this position will function as a Physician Assistant on a Hospitalist Service covering general medicine and surgery inpatients. The Physician Assistant works collaboratively with hospitalists, fellows, residents, surgeons, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, case managers, and other medical specialists to ensure compliance with all existing best practices and performance measures. She/he executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the management of complex clients under the supervision of a hospitalist. The PA is responsible for providing diagnostic and clinical care to patients as defined by his/her clinical privileges. She/he is also responsible and accountable for maintaining training required and may be assigned additional duties that reflect the educational, experiential and competency requirements. Shift rotation and some weekend rotation will be required.
Major duties and responsibilities include:
§ Perform History and Physical exams
§ Participate in daily interdisciplinary rounds on all patients with the hospitalist to identify specific clinical objectives for each patient. § Ensure best practices are being applied and adhered to appropriately.
§ Write orders including admissions and transfers, labs, medications, procedures, respiratory and rehabilitative therapy psychological and lab and radiological studies and consults.
§ Perform approved standardized procedures in accordance with procedural clinical privileges, skill and proficiency.
§ Interact with consultants and ensure continuity of care between Hospitalist staff, patients, and their families and perform clinical follow-up reviews.
§ Participating in providing education and counseling of patients and families on end-of-life issues, preventive care, updating of medical conditions
The Physician Assistant is also responsible and accountable for maintaining training required and may be assigned additional duties that reflect the educational, experiential and competency requirements. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
- Citizenship of the United States
- A bachelors degree from a PA training program which is certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA); or Graduation form a PA training program of at least 12 months duration which is certified by ARC-PA and a bachelors degree in a health occupation or a health related science; or graduation from a PA training program of at least 12 month duration which is certified by ARC-PA and a period of progressively responsible health care experience such as independent duty medical corpsman, LPN, RN, medical technologist, or medical technician. The duration of approved academic training and health care experience must total at least 5 years.
- National Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) is a requirement for employment.

- Experience as a Certified Physician Assistant managing general medicine and surgery inpatients.
- The successful candidate must possess the ability to work as a collaborative team member and assist with patient coordination.
