The Business Analyst will support the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis in day to day financial operations of the Publishing Division, which includes all MSLO publications, books and digital properties. This position will interact with various operating departments throughout the Company, including accounting, editorial, ad sales, marketing, circulation and print production.
1) Monthly Accounting close
a. Create and reconcile monthly and quarterly journal entries for the accounting close.
i. Ad Revenue recognition
ii. Paper Usage recognition
iii. Postage usage recognition
iv. Prepare reclasses
v. Prepare accruals
vi. Confirm, review all print and production invoices
b. Assist in reviewing, generating and distributing the publishing monthly close package.
2) Invoice Processing
a. Prepare postage and printing wires/funding monthly.
b. Review for accurate coding
c. Vendor payment inquiries as necessary.
a. Editorial Story Budget Tracking
b. T&E reporting
c. Postage tracking & analysis.
d. Paper, printing & distribution tracking
4) Ad Hoc / Other
a. Maintaining production invoice filing system.
b. All other ad hoc analysis as needed.
2-4 years FP&A or accounting experience. Experience and knowledge of publishing media preferred. Strong Excel skills and knowledge of PeopleSoft a plus. Ability to work in fast-paced environment and schedule flexibility to accommodate tight deadlines. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to communicate financial topics to non-finance oriented colleagues.
