DESCRIPTION

The Security Guard will patrol and keep under surveillance all school grounds and property to defend against damage, theft, or harm. Duties are performed unarmed. The Security Guard will walk or drive around the premises to ensure building and/or gate security; will maintain surveillance at exits; will inspect the identification of persons prior to entering school grounds and will provide information, directions, and escort service as needed. Depending upon circumstances, she/he may be assigned to a specific zone or geographical work area. Additional duties may include inspecting incoming packages, verifying identity of individuals entering the property, and sounding alarms in case of emergency.

DUTIES

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Security Guard will patrol and keep under surveillance all school grounds and property to defend against damage, theft, or harm. Duties are performed unarmed. The Security Guard will walk or drive around the premises to ensure building and/or gate security; will maintain surveillance at exits; will inspect the identification of persons prior to entering school grounds and will provide information, directions, and escort service as needed. Depending upon circumstances, she/he may be assigned to a specific zone or geographical work area. Additional duties may include inspecting incoming packages, verifying identity of individuals entering the property, and sounding alarms in case of emergency.

PRIMARY TASKS:
1.Share a commitment to the success of the mission, goals, and objectives of the school.

2.Set high expectations and standards for the safety and security of the school and school property.

3.Support the school by offering organizational and technical assistance that ensures compliance with all corporate, local, state and federal guidelines and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Guards property against damage, theft, trespassing and illegal entry. Typically, unarmed and designated to one location.

2. Makes periodic walking tours around building and grounds examining doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are properly secured.

3. Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes and security doors left unlocked.

4. Ensures proper identification of employees or visitors.

5. Investigates disturbances, and in the event of emergency, maintains order and safety of personnel; serve as a liaison with emergency response unit(s).

6. Sounds alarm and/or calls police, fire, or emergency personnel by telephone in case of fire, difficulty with unauthorized persons, or medical emergencies.

7. Makes recommendations on improving safety and security measures and processes.

8. Opens buildings for individuals when needed and locks buildings to protect property.

9. Informs and warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles.

10. Calls police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.

11. Provides escort services for visitors, students, staff and faculty as required.

12. Controls crowds at large gatherings, watches for theft, and guards the pick-up and delivery of valuables.

14. Prepares and submits daily security reports, activity logs, including reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.

15. Functions within the policies and administrative procedures as outlined in the Personnel Manual.

16. Is familiar with and supports school administration in the effective implementation of the school's Emergency Response Plan.

17. Answers telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information during non-business hours.

18. Inspects and adjusts surveillance equipment and machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering.

19. Circulates among visitors, patrons, and employees to preserve order and protect property during dismissal.

20. Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.

21. Performs day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Knowledge of security procedures and one year relevant experience in security guard operations. Security Guard License required

2. Must be mentally alert, emotionally stable, have good character references, good health, especially in hearing and eyesight, and good personal habits such as neatness and dependability. Should be physically fit to deal with emergencies.

3. Must be able to maintain a positive working relationship with faculty, staff, board members, parents, students, and community.
