The Business Development Specialist (BDS) is an Ambassador for Nicholas and Company. Business Development Specialists live the Nicholas and Company Mission, Vision, Passion (MVP) by performing their duties with high standards of integrity, character, and work ethic. The Business Development Specialist's primary responsibility is to bring new customers to Nicholas and Company through personal prospecting and new account opening initiatives. The BDS's secondary role is to assist DSRs and DSMs with significant account penetration with existing customers. The BDS makes regular personal visits to prospective accounts. They work collaboratively with DSMs and DSRs to insure that new accounts opened have adequate sales and service representation. The BDS manages new customer expectations regarding: credit terms, matching products, pricing, delivery windows and frequency, product usage, special orders etc. The BDS is a consultant for Nicholas and Company with customers and prospects.
Duties and Responsibilities: Learn, adopt, and practice Nicholas and Company Servant Leadership and MVP standards Learn and practice Strategic and Conceptual selling methodology, terminology, and practices. Contribute to all Nicholas and Company strategic goals. Understand, explain, and enforce credit policies and procedures. Consult with customers and prospects including: menu analysis, product application analysis, operational analysis and improvement, inventory management, and other consultative activities. Deliver results by regularly bringing on new business and significantly penetrating existing accounts. Achieve annual performance goals and objectives as defined and mutually agreed upon with supervisor. Coordinate with Specialists to leverage expertise and resources with prospects and customers. Participate in Quality Business Reviews (QBR) with customers as needed. Customer retention strategy. Develop and utilize excellent listening skills with prospects and customers. Understand and explain DSR compensation programs and commission chargeback policies. Become proficient with Salesforce.com. Input tasks, leads, and opportunities and keep them updated. Collaborate and communicate with other departments to promote unity, cooperation, and efficiency. Attend and participate in district training meetings. Attend all corporate and regional sales meetings.
BDS Time Allocation Expectation (Estimated Averages): 50% - Making personal prospective customer visits â€“ average 30 hours per week. 40% - Consulting with customers and DSRs for account penetration â€“ average 24 hours per week. 10% - Administrative work â€“ average 6 hours per week.
Requirements: Must have a Clean MVR Must live in the Boise, ID area Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Must be tenacious and persistent in making new account prospecting calls. Must be results and goal driven with the focus on bringing on new customers and adding new cases. Must have the ability to ask meaningful questions and listen and identify customer solution images. Must be organized and able to work in an unstructured, unsupervised environment. Must be expert as building rapport and establishing relationships. Must be competent at developing and communicating mutually beneficial solutions. Must have an understanding of foodservice operations methodology and key performance indicators. Must have the ability to understand market planning, customers, and the competition. Must reside in or be willing to relocate to assigned territory. Must have a valid driver's license, clean motor vehicle record, and dependable vehicle with appropriate levels of insurance commensurate with company policy. Must be able to perform essential duties and responsibilities efficiently, accurately and safely, with or without reasonable accommodation and without creating threat or harm. Must comply with all company policies and procedures, as well as, state, federal and safety regulations.
Other: 5-10 years sales experience and/or food service background strongly preferred. Chef experience or restaurant operation background a plus. Bachelor's degree in Sales, Marketing or related field and/or equivalent experience preferred. Motivated self-starter who is willing to work hard to persuade customers and prospects to become partners with Nicholas and Company. Ability to think analytically, problem solve, and provide excellent customer support.
