Under direct supervision, performs laboratory clerical tasks utilizing knowledge of LIS and HIS computer operations, interdepartmental functions, hospital regulations and general office systems. Enters relevant patient data and laboratory procedure requests into the computer to ensure proper testing of patient specimens and accurate billing for services rendered. Job requires the use of considerable tact and patience in dealing with the public, technical, nursing staff and physicians. Potential biological hazards exist, Individuals assigned to this classification will perform some or all duties listed as required.
• High School Diploma
• Graduate of an accredited medical education center, person with experience in a physician’s office, or as a Ward/Unit Clerk, Laboratory Assistant or Laboratory Processor.
• One year of experience in specimen collection (i.e. phlebotomy), specimen processing and distribution, or providing clerical assistance in a laboratory setting.
