We are currently seeking a Seed Treatment Scientist for the within the Plant Biology group located in St. Louis MO. The role responsibilities will include field evaluation of biological and chemical seed treatments and foliar actives for the advancement of the next generation Acceleron seed treatment launches in corn and soybean. In addition, the responsibilities include the creation and establishment of innovative micro-environment seed treatment assays in the area of plant disease, small molecules and biologicals as well as technical seed treatment leadership among cross functional teams.

Applicant will need to develop and manage a considerable number of protocols, coordinate and conduct field trial work with third party contractors, compile data and coordinate statistical analysis, and interpret results and recommend products and/or strategies for advancement.

We’re looking for someone who has the ability to work independently with minimal instruction and can effectively network and lead technically across multiple functions within Monsanto such as Breeding and Technology Development.

Candidate must have strong oral and written communication skills to clearly articulate results and recommendations to diverse audiences. Understanding the integration of research priorities and commercial interests to drive product introduction strategies will be an important attribute. The ability to use innovative approaches and creative research thinking will be highly valued.

The applicant should have prior experience designing, implementing, and executing field research trials. This individual must have a strong understanding of statistical analysis and data management. A practical understanding of plant physiology, pathology, and breeding is strongly preferred.

The chosen applicant must be able to work within a team atmosphere. Also needs to be able to work safely and comply with established team process and procedures and takes responsibility for the proper handling and disposal of agricultural related chemistries and regulated plant materials.

  • A Ph.D. or a M.S., with 2 years of work experience, in Seed Technology, Plant Physiology, Plant Pathology, Agronomy, Horticulture, Weed Science, Entomology, Microbilogy or related field.

  • Experience in handling of crop protection products as well as the implementation of experiments.

  • Knowledge of various aspects of study design and how to conduct controlled experiment and field trial work.

  • Ability to successfully operate in a cross functional environment and drive technical programs is highly important.

  • Experience in greenhouse and growth chamber techniques and field trial management is desired.

A high level of diligence, accuracy, and proficiency is required to achieve high quality results in a safe and prudent manner. Candidate must be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities as well as have the ability to perform successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-based environment. Proficiency with standard IT tools is highly desired and a willingness to learn Monsanto proprietary IT software. Significant amount of travel in the U.S. will be required during the growing season.
