Under the direction of the Corporate Communications Manager, this position identifies, manages and executes internal and external communications programs and strategies for Bank of Hawaii and Bank of Hawaii Corporation’s other subsidiaries.
Includes internal and external communications involving the company’s products and services, special events and community activities, and oversight of the News Room on the external BOH website and BlueFlash on the intranet.
This position is the principal back-up for the Corporate Communications manager in relations with managers, business units, media, customers and the general public.
Participates as a team member in advancing the overall communication goals of the company and the Corporate Communications Department.
In addition, this position is responsible for demonstrating the Excellence in Sales/Service (ESS) philosophy by participating in and practicing ESS disciplines and behaviors.
Identifies marketing communications opportunities that bring visibility and credibility to the bank’s products, services, channels and community/employee activities.
Develops, administers, executes and evaluates strategies that support the objective of marketing communications.
Works with business units including but not limited to product managers and the staff of Marketing Promotions & Special Events, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Electronic Banking, Human Resources and other departments to develop marketing communications strategies and execute tactics that complement and reinforce the company’s other marketing efforts.
Provides miscellaneous communications support for company executives and departments.
Writes letters, remarks, speeches, advertorials, articles, editorials by-lined articles in support of positions, products and issues and internal communications.
Provides assistance with presentations, and pitches stories for placement in the media.
Supports the Corporate Communications manager in media relations and external communications, including relations with customers and the general public.
Functions as back-up including but not limited to media contact and alternate on Disaster Preparedness Committee (DPC) teams.
Assists with writing, editing and coordinating production for BOH’s company newspaper, newsletter and intranet.
Assists with budget planning/forecasting, vendor management, department leadership, corporate initiatives, corporate task force representation, etc.
Assists with planning, coordination, facility/equipment set up of corporate employee communication events (e.g., Chairman’s Town Hall meetings).
Researches, writes and edits editorial portion of BOHC’s Annual Report.
Works with Managing Committee members to establish editorial theme and content.
Manages and oversees budget for graphic design, photography, printing and distribution.
Writes Quarterly Letters from the Chairman to BOHC Shareholders.
Serves as liaison with National Wire distribution firm to issue quarterly Earnings Releases.
Bachelors degree in communications, liberal arts, journalism, business, marketing or other related field
Minimum of 7-10 years of communications and/or public relations experience in the local market.
Ability to capitalize on marketing opportunities to gain visibility and recognition for the company’s image, products, services, events and delivery channels.
Technical expertise, including facility with PC-based software (word processing, spreadsheet and database programs), date management and manipulation, and on-line proficiency.
Outstanding written and oral communications skills.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, ability to work with and add value to a team and to communicate with people at all levels, both internal and external to the company.
