Located at the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs LaSalle Veterans Home in LaSalle, IL, under direction of the Assistant Director of Nursing, serves as Nursing Supervisor in a skilled care nursing unit with 24-hour accountability to maintain quality nursing care. Supervises and evaluates both professional and non-professional staff members and assists with providing on-call coverage. Sets goals for further development of personnel, and recommends disciplinary action to Nursing Administration when appropriate. Ensures that duties are properly carried out as required. Plans and conducts unit meetings in formulation of resident care and/or nursing policy. Actively participates in assigned committees. Acts as liaison between residents, families, staff and the Interdisciplinary Team in order to provide realistic, holistic care to the resident. Provides MDS Assessment information as scheduled. Completes and maintains the Braden Scale, Resident Acuity, Census Report, Nursing Statistics and the monthly MAR review.

Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois with graduation from an approved nursing education program. Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience and two (2) years of supervisory experience. Requires thorough knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice or recent developments in the field of geriatric nursing. Job performance requires visual, auditory, fine and gross hand manipulation, finger and hand dexterity. Requires ability to record appropriate information, written and verbal communication skills, ability to speak before a group and comprehensive ability to fully evaluate staff performance and resident care and to ensure completion of appropriate written documentation required by Nursing Administration. Physical requirements of bending, stooping, twisting, walking, lifting, and standing for extended periods of time. Requires physical ability to push, pull or lift fifty pounds unassisted.
