A senior member of the Communications Office, this individual is the chief editorial expert for College publications, the editor-in-chief of the The Reporter magazine, and the editorial resource for the Office of the President. Must be not just expert in writing, style, and grammar, but also experienced in working with graphic design, photography, and magazine production. Manages production of three issues annually of the alumni magazine, from inception through delivery. Responsible for overseeing editorial content for the Office
’s print and Web projects, as well as performing a variety of communications duties. Proofreads College publications, and writes and edits for the College president, including public letters, e-mails, speeches, and other materials as needed. Applies knowledge of the College’s constituencies in assuring that key messages are communicated effectively. Participates in budget planning and annual strategic planning.
Bachelor’s degree in English, marketing, or related field required. At least five years of experience as a full-time writer/editor in a publications department or in a news organization, preferably in higher education. Must have outstanding writing and editing skills and extensive knowledge of grammar and style. Knowledge of electronic production processes, including page layout programs, digital photography, and print production processes required as is the ability to manage and participate in visual arts decisions.
