We are searching for a Director of Operations reporting to the President of FMI. The primary function of this position will be to provide leadership to the manufacturing organization that causes it to excel at cost effectiveness, product quality, and continuous improvement and at being prepared for integration of new product manufacture. This position will also be responsible for providing leadership to the broader Graftech organization that causes it to achieve its strategic goals.

Serve as a member of the Graftech Business Development Team that defines and executes the overall strategy for the company.
Serve as member/facilitator of the Business Operations Team that gives day-to-day and near term (six quarters) direction for all business operations within the Graftech organization. The team is responsible for establishing and executing plans that insure that business goals and objectives are met.
Direct the operations function for Graftech. The focus is on the day-to-day and medium term (six quarters) performance of the production (manufacturing, maintenance, inspection, and receiving/shipping/stores), Engineering (facility and process), Quality, and Health Safety and Environmental groups.
Coordinate and prioritize facility resources to meet the requirements of the operations, application engineering and testing organizations.
Work closely with the members of the Business Development Team in setting direction for the company, including: strategic planning, market planning, capital and facility planning, staffing and personnel, etc (15%)
Facilitate the Business Operations Team function of the Graftech organization in establishing and executing plans focused on achieving goals in a time horizon from current to six quarters out. Tasks include forecasting, sales and operations plan setting and execution, operational budget and capital planning and execution, personnel staffing and planning, support systems planning and implementation (25%)\
Give direct supervision to the Graftech operations organization through the site manager(s) position. Interact and work with indirect reports in the site manager’s organization(s) for the day-to-day manufacturing, engineering and HSEP activities of the business (20%).
Work with managers, peers, and indirect reports in resolving day-to-day issues and conducting the normal course of business (15%).
Responsible for securing current / short term (1 to 5 years) supplies of raw materials for manufacturing.
Responsible for identifying and developing sources of raw materials for the long term (5 to 20 years).
For the organization: allocation of resources (personnel, time, assets); prioritization of work and projects; conflict management.
Prepares and makes presentations to: customers, Graftech management, salaried, and hourly groups.
Routinely meets with key vendors/suppliers, consultants and business partners to represent Graftech business interests.
Has the responsibility for and actively encourages, suggests and makes decisions for changes to systems and to process technologies to enhance manufacturing capabilities and efficiencies.
Regular communications with suppliers of raw materials, external consultants, business partners (5-10%)
Direct the Graftech operations functions through the site manager. Manufacturing, maintenance, engineering (facility and process), quality, health/safety and environmental.
Budget: Total Revenue - $24 mm; Total Capital - $2-15 mm; Total expense - $11mm
Bachelor degree in Engineering, Business or Management is required. MBA is a definite plus.
Moderate to broad understanding of: manufacturing technology and processes; quality systems and process control; facility and equipment design and engineering; human resource systems/ accounting and budget setting/control principles and systems; supply chain management systems (procurement, order entry, scheduling and reporting); lean manufacturing tools (MRP, Kanban, cell manufacturing, demand pull etc.) is required.
Minimum 15 years of relevant business experience and job positions.
Strong analytical skills and mechanical aptitude required.
Ability to work well with all levels of people is necessary.
Strong written and oral communication skills in the English language are necessary.
Capable of using Microsoft Office software.
