The College of William & Mary is seeking qualified applicants for a Laboratory & Research Specialist II for Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) located in the Eastern Shore of Virginia. This position supports all aspects of the organization's mission. Primary responsibilities are: -To oversee operations of a research hatchery and a micro-algae culture facility. -Oversee day-to-day operations of shellfish culture activities and of all experiments in the shellfish hatchery. -Develop protocols for culturing new species as research needs arise. -Participate in the nursery & field grow-out phases of shellfish aquaculture research projects. -Work with resident and visiting researchers to design and implement experiments. -Prepare an annual report detailing all shellfish spawning events, larval survival rates and micro-algal culture history.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in biology, marine science or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Working knowledge of shellfish hatchery techniques and experience rearing bivalve larvae, preferably scallops. Knowledge of culture techniques for marine micro-algae. Familiarity seawater and mechanical systems in a hatchery or seawater laboratory. Ability to operate such a system. Knowledge of field grow-out techniques for shellfish. Ability to work effectively with scientists and students to conduct research projects.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a shellfish hatchery. Training or experience in small boat operation, preferably with knowledge of Eastern Shore coastal habitats. Experience conducting experiments with marine organisms.
