This position is responsible for setting the Baker Hughes media program strategy and executing on that strategy. The Baker Hughes media program encompasses thought leadership, trade journal articles, press releases, media briefings and events and media related web content. The successful candidate should have strong knowledge of the oil and gas upstream industry and experience in communicating corporate and technology messages to a variety of external audiences. It is imperative that the successful candidate foster and maintain excellent working relationships with trade publication writers/editors and Baker Hughes internal contacts across business segments, geomarkets and regions to maximize our media exposure.

This position will be responsible for: Directing/coordinating development and placement of all Baker Hughes articles in trade publications --Collaborating with business segments, geomarket and regional Baker Hughes marketing contacts to identify priority topics --Proposing articles to trade publication editors --Identifying subject matter experts to author articles or to be interviewed by writers/editors of trade publications --Reviewing trade publication editorial calendars to identify opportunities for article placement in issues with maximum exposure (e.g., bonus distribution at major conferences) --Reviewing Baker Hughes-authored technical papers to identify prospects for article development --Developing media kits for high priority industry conferences as well as providing content for show dailies distributed at major conferences (i.e., OTC, SPE, IADC, etc.) NOTE: Important to identify opportunities early to reserve the maximum space allowable in each day's issue. Managing marketing communication specialists (in Corporate Communications) --Assuring award nomination solicitations are up-to-date --Identifying new award opportunities --Delegating editing/reviewing of articles --Assigning special projects as needed --Serving as resource for marcomm specialists for product line and technical questions --Assuring adherence to SPE Style Guide and AP Style, as appropriate Collaborating with Baker Hughes events, marketing collateral writers, and web team --Providing content for events, such as updated Baker Hughes overviews, Baker Hughes boilerplate descriptions --Developing media kits for major conferences; coordinate distribution with Baker Hughes events personnel --Providing article reprints, updated Baker Hughes overviews to Web team --Reviewing/checking News & Media content regularly on --Seeking permission, when necessary, for linking to articles and other mentions on the Web Maintaining article archive --Managing reprint purchasing, distribution and Web posting --Tracking all articles pending/in development/submitted --Compiling monthly metrics for business segments --Checking OPS daily --Searching for Baker Hughes mentions on Web (GoogleAlerts; search engines—Google, Dogpile, Bing, AltaVista, Yahoo,, etc.) to include in monthly metrics Writing/reviewing press releases/media alerts/new product/new service announcements --Maintaining media e-mail distribution lists (identify new names to be added by reviewing 2011 editorial calendars; remove undeliverable names after media deployments) --Coordinating press release/media event/media kit content for product launches --Maintaining tracking list of all BHI press releases (search for mentions on Web as noted above) White papers--identifying/proposing topics and subject matter experts --Actively solicit Baker Hughes authors for white papers --Providing guidance/examples to prospective authors Conference speakers --Work with business segments, geomarkets and regions, identify prospective speakers for conference sessions (solicitations are received from trade publication editors) Newsletters --Review/edit content Requirements --Bachelor's degree; at least 10 years of media experience, excellent written and oral communications and editing skills; strong relationship-building skills
