The Director of Software Development for General Markets Solutions will own and drive the vision, execution and delivery of our “next generation” general markets solutions for our Fundraising, education and Arts and Cultural markets.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background leading engineering teams to deliver SaaS solutions quickly, effectively and incrementally in a stable and cost effective manner. S/he may have a mix of experience in both on-premise/licensed and SaaS/subscription offerings, and ideally, would have led an organization through a successful transition to SaaS.
The Director of SW Dev for General Markets will be a strong communicator and collaborator. S/he must also be creative, innovative and brave. The candidate will be responsible for clearly setting a vision for SaaS solutions, working closely with her/his team (including product management, engineering, QA, UX, Program Management and Documentation), as well as stakeholders within the Business Unit and others within PD (e.g., the Shared Services, Platform and Enterprise Teams), to execute and accelerate delivery of our general markets solutions. We’re looking for someone innovative and creative, with proven experience building and leading a team to deliver SaaS solutions that clients love.

The Director of SW Development for our General Markets Solutions will drive all aspects of product development and delivery including architecture, user experience (matrix), development, quality assurance (matrix), and release management. This role reports to the VP of Product Development. This is an opportunity to be innovative, creative, and drive Blackbaud’s flagship SaaS products.

Key Responsibilities and Objectives
Technical Leadership: Build and release new versions of Blackbaud’s next generatiaon SaaS offerings on schedule, with great quality, usability, and the right feature set for our clients. Coordinate with other product teams to deliver seamless cross-product solutions.
Team Leadership: Be a strong mentor and lead by example. Recruit, develop and retain a team currently consisting of 50 engineering professionals (software engineers, matrixed QA Engineers, Program managers, matrixed UX, etc.) who are located in Charleston, SC. Build and maintain a high performing team that loves their jobs and has fun at work. Work with other Directors of Software Development to refine and improve our practices for software development, team roles, and success measures.
Creative Problem Solving: Generate feedback on product design and usability to create products that delight clients and to build our next generation of solutions and enhancements. Leverage technology to solve problems for the delivery of our solutions to our clients. The right candidate always drives towards solutions and has an inexhaustible repertoire of approaches.
Business Operations: Anticipate market and team needs/ risks and proactively pursue projects and activities to head off issues. Identify and pursue new market opportunities when appropriate.
Customer Focus: Work with passionate clients and develop tools that enable them to focus on their core mission.
Minimum of fifteen years’ experience in software development, with at least five years delivering SaaS (cloud-based) products.
Experience managing a cross-functional software development team consisting of 50-100 Software engineers, Quality Assurance Engineers and Analysts and Program Managers in an agile development environment.
Demonstrated technical leadership in the areas of software architecture, database design, web development, quality assurance, load testing, and performance testing.
Proven track record of delivering high quality releases on schedule and handling the demands of a fast –growing team with multiple simultaneous releases, developing SaaS applications from concept to product launches and post support activities.
Strong experience with the Microsoft technology stack
Experience working in or with non-profit organizations is helpful. A Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university is required and a master’s degree is preferred.
