The Supplier Quality Engineer will work with Suppliers, Design Engineering, Operations and Supply Chain for the selection of qualified suppliers and improvement of supplier performance to provide a positive impact on the quality of new and existing products. Works with Design Engineering, Operations and other Supply Chain employees to drive continuous design and process related improvements with externally sourced suppliers. Implements processes for identifying suppliers for strategic development and implementing a system for continuous development of suppliers. This position is responsible for ensuring suppliers are capable of providing product and services of the highest quality, logistics, technology and cost. Must drive proactive activities to ensure smooth transition of products from engineering to production and also direct activities to support manufacturing in achieving first pass yield, cycle time and On-Time Delivery requirements.
Works actively to drive improvement projects at suppliers to improve quality and reduce total cost per part by eliminating waste in the supply chain process.
Support Cost Reduction activities / Optimization activities via Value Engineering efforts.
Set priority and direct personnel in support of engineering, manufacturing and field activities to ensure the highest levels of component manufacturability, quality and reliability.
Develop and implement regular review of supplier performance via QLTC (quality, logistics, technology and cost) and feedback of this information to suppliers. Establish plans to improve performance and undertake corrective actions as required.
Defines and implement a system for supplier selection, development and continuous improvement.
Manage receiving inspection organization. Oversee sampling inspection and testing of received parts, documentation of first article inspection reports and documentation of all material rejections.
Support product development activities through the use of Supplier Scorecards for CTF (critical to function) features, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
Document and manage major issues affecting supply and delivery in the Supplier Corrective Action Request.
Ensure FA (Failure Analysis) of failed parts occurs in a timely manner (internally and supplier).
Support Operational excellence activities for Reduced Lead time.
Support company safety initiatives.
Assures efficient and economical utilization of materials, improvement of methods, and elimination of wasteful practices within the department; may assist in budget development and control.
Leads cross-functional project teams and establishes and implements team/individual goals for project teams and provides feedback regarding progress of each employees.
Performs other job-related duties as required.
Bachelor's degree (BS) in a technical discipline ( Mechanical / Electrical Engineering preferred).
Ability to manage multiple priorities in response to inquiries from customers (internal and external), management and suppliers. Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions. Interprets mechanical and electrical specifications.
5+ years of previous experience as a Quality Engineer, Supplier Quality Engineer or management of supplier development.
Additional requirements include: Working knowledge of ISO 9000 Quality Management System; Previous training and experience in auditing quality systems; Experience with Lean Supply Chain / Manufacturing and Value engineering preferred. Previous training and experience as a team leader.
