Assistant Director, Award Administration Training (Internal)

Description:
The University of Illinois seeks an Assistant Director, Award Administration Training to coordinate activities related to analysis, design and development and presentation of training curriculum for internal and external training in sponsored award administration in accordance with institutional policies and procedures, state and/or federal laws, and contractual obligations. Additional responsibilities include:

Duties:
Provide leadership to unit and campus units in the development of training program in sponsored project research post-award administration.

Consult with management and collaborates with subject matter experts to identify specific areas in post-award administration training needs, objectives, and appropriate instructional methodologies to create high-quality training materials and curriculum.

Provide expertise and leadership for training initiatives. Plan, design, coordinate and conduct general and specialized training, educational programs and presentations for internal and external training needs.

Establish instructional materials and development standards for all existing and future training materials. Support the ongoing assessment of effectiveness of all training materials to ensure continuing development and consistency between the training program and training objectives. Conduct follow-up studies to determine impact of training program and recommend changes are required.

Confer with management to gain knowledge and identify situations and training topics that require periodic, preventive or remedial training.

6. Provide leadership and coordinate the activities of personnel engaged in training and orientation activities to internal staff and departmental staff.

7. Organize and maintain resource center of training and educational materials and curriculum.

8. Represent Grants and Contracts Office at departmental and campus training outreach opportunities. Support collegial environment, maintain good customer relations both internally and externally.

9. Assist in the development of post-award and University policies for sponsored projects by identifying areas where policies need to be developed and making recommendations for these policies.

10. Actively seek current information pertaining to sponsored project terms and conditions and University policies and procedures as they relate to establishment/maintenance of sponsored project accounts. Maintain contacts with other universities, training organizations and associations for purpose of keeping abreast of new training of topics related to sponsored research administration.

Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Accountancy, Business Administration and/or Finance; training experience, at a higher education or other challenging professional environment required as well as a m inimum of five to seven years in a position requiring utilization of financial and administrative skills in a complex business, academic, or government environment, preferably at an institution of higher learning. Other requirements include: h ighly developed communication skills and ability to work in an integrated team; e xcellent computer skills using Microsoft Office suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access) especially strong knowledge, experience and understanding of database programs; s trong interpersonal skills that reflect courtesy, diplomacy, and a collaborative approach to develop and maintain effective work relationships; ability to be self-motivated, work independently and to exercise good judgment and discretion in the performance of all work assignments; ability to multi-task and prioritize work accordingly to meet deadlines while staying on task with daily assignments; strong communication, organizational, analytical and problem solving skills; s olid understanding of sponsored project award administration; knowledge and understanding of related Federal regulations and policies for the conduct of sponsored programs; familiar with State of Illinois regulations, policies and procedures for the conduct of sponsored programs; k nowledge and respect of policies and procedures outlined for the University of Illinois, OBFS, and department and k nowledge of Federal and State of Illinois policies and procedures for the conduct of sponsored programs is required. Minimum travel may be required.
