Under general supervision, assist senior staff with systems analysis, systems hardware/software configuration and maintenance, systems and applications program installation, and systems administration for a multi-platform server environment. Troubleshoot, maintain, support, and document existing code base in production websites and scripting applications within the AVRC/HNRP computing infrastructure. Analyze, specify, design and make recommendations to senior staff on software/hardware solutions to address a variety of problems and tasks. Develop and maintain a wide range of web utilities and scripts to facilitate monitoring of server logs and network traffic, customer requests and billing, server maintenance, backup and redundancy. Assist systems administrator with installation, configuration, and maintenance of GNU-Linux, Apple, and Windows based workstations, servers, and peripherals. Create and/or manage existing user accounts within the campus Active Directory and Exchange implementation providing LDAP integration with in-house scripts and services. Respond to help requests by phone, email, and in person. Perform software updates, operating system and application installation/configuration, and routine maintenance as required. Train users in use of hardware and applications. Assist with facility day to day operations tasks. Ability to lead and/or participate in discussions regarding procedures and goals of unit.
Must be able to work occasional overtime.
Must be able to work on a large AIDS research project environment.
Demonstrated experience designing and developing database applications which include forms, reports, queries and interfaces to other database systems in MySQL and MSSQL.
Demonstrated experience using, interpreting, and modifying scripts in Perl, Shell, and AWK,
ability to examine, document and analyze existing code.
Experience with PC and Macintosh hardware and peripherals for installation and maintenance in a networked environment. Proven experience with desktop operating systems including Microsoft, Linux and Macintosh.
Proven experience with Linux and Windows server based hardware and software design and installation. Experience tracking hardware and software assets, experience doing computer related inventory.
Knowledge of software utilities such as text editors, compilers, debuggers and development environments. Experience with installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of office productivity software (MS Office, Adobe, internet browsers).
Experience with troubleshooting network protocols and tcp/ip problems. Experience with diagnostic tools for network troubleshooting.
Experience with configuring network settings and diagnosing network connectivity issues for Windows, Macintosh and Linux based systems, including switches and wireless routers.
Excellent interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy and flexibility with the ability to work in a team framework in conjunction with principles of community with staff, faculty, professionals, the public, users, and others.
