Position Title

Sr. IT Systems Administrator - Linux

Position Description

The Linux System Administrator will administer the database servers in support of the application system and database server environment. System management responsibilities will include Operating System installation and upgrades, account monitoring, security, and other administration related functions necessary to ensure system reliability and performance.

Management of Linux server environment including the forensics analysis, auditing, patching, planning and execution of system upgrades.

Develop, implement and manage tools for automation of systems administration tasks

Perform duties related to managing and auditing system security controls to specified guidelines

Establish and manage tools for monitoring and automating alerts relative to system issues.

Maintain system maintenance and activity logs and documentation of policies and procedures for various tasks related to the operation of the environments

Work closely with the application development and database management team to resolve system administration issues and recommend the best course of action for optimizing the environment

Document system changes through the demand management, change management and release management processes.

Manage the daily operations of the Linux environments to ensure priorities are established and services are delivered as required by the application and database management teams

Work closely with the IT Governance team to formalize general computing controls as required to satisfy audit guidelines

Work with the IT Project Management Office to ensure project deliverables follow the KBR System Development Lifecycle processes.

Ensure that change management and release management work processes follow the KBR defined System Development Lifecycle process.

Lead the evaluation and implementation of new technologies to optimize the Linux operating system environment

Work with the IT Infrastructure organizations and provide technical specifications and delivery requirements for the Linux environment



5 - 7 years of Unix Systems Administration experience (3+ years in a high volume Linux environment)

Solid understanding of configuration management tools

Strong scripting experience and proven ability to automate security and other systems administration tools

Strong experience with storage, load balancing, and other technologies in a high volume, high transaction environment

Strong troubleshooting experience including storage and network layers where they are relevant to the Linux OS.

Strong backup/recovery and disaster recovery skills.

Solid patching experience especially with respect to changing and recompiling the kernel.(Use of OEM a plus)

Bachelor’s Degree in IT related technology Major.

Significant experience in Clustering of systems running Linux in an Oracle RAC configuration.

Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
