We have approximately 100,000 residents with 16,900 students enrolled in fourteen (K-5) elementary schools, four (6-8) middle schools, three (9-12) high schools and an alternative learning center.Job SummaryFull time position responsible for the maintenance and repair of all Transportation Services vehicles; assisting with the parts inventory system; assisting with keeping the Transportation Services Shop in compliance with all OSHA standards and regulations; and assisting all other Mechanics, the Head Mechanic and all Transportation Services employees in a spirit of teamwork. Facilitate positive relationship building and communication within the Transportation Department, especially between yourself, other Mechanics and Drivers, Substitute Drivers and Transportation Leadership. Ensure you contribute to the Mission of Transportation Services to provide safe, reliable, clean, efficient transportation services, so when students arrive at their destination, they are ready to learn. Ensure you contribute to the Vision of Transportation Services to provide reliable access to education by promoting and preserving each individual's dignity and safety in a positive environment. Serve as a role model and challenge ourselves and our students to achieve the highest potential. Communicate positively and proactively with Customers, Transportation Department Leadership, Office Staff Drivers, Substitute Drivers, Assistants and other Mechanics. Essential Functions Maintain and Repair Transportation Service VehiclesClean and Maintain Transportation Shop FacilitiesAssist with Shop Parts, Supplies and Equipment InventoryCustomer ServiceTraining and Continuing EducationSubstitute School Bus DrivingPerform Other Duties as Assigned by the Head Mechanic Job Qualifications Licensure: Possess or be able to obtain a valid Minnesota School Bus Drivers License within first three months of employment. Education: High School Degree or equivalent. Fully participate in and successfully pass the transportation services Customer Service Training Program within the first three months of hire. Classes in the repair and maintenance of commercial, diesel or bus fleet vehicles desired. Experience: At least one year vehicle maintenance and repair experience in a transportation services school environment or two years experience in commercial vehicle repair. Experience driving buses or commercial vehicles. Excellent attendance and reliability required. Successful completion of defensive driving classes preferred. School bus driving experience preferred. Knowledge: Knowledge of the maintenance and repair of school buses and vans or similar commercial vehicles. Knowledge of positive interpersonal communication and relationship building. Ability to work in a fast paced environment and create and participate in a team environment. Skills: ASE Certification for School Bus repair and/or Diesel Engine repair preferred. Positive interpersonal communication and relationship building skills. At least beginning computer skills preferred. Establishing and promoting teamwork skills and creativity in the workplace.
