Sr. Linux Administrator
McCandless, PA

Experienced Linux system administrator with 5+ years of hands-on experience managing hosted applications as well as installing, configuring, maintaining, securing, debugging, and monitoring Redhat Linux ES servers; application server management experience with JBoss 4.0.5/4.2 and Apache/Tomcat.
  • Diagnose performance problems
  • Deploy and support server infrastructure and applications
  • Mastery of shell scripting
  • Help develop tools to maintain and monitor the server, network and storage infrastructure; proactively track performance and utilization of system resources
  • Deploy and support J2EE (preferably JBoss) applications into a high availability environment
  • Maintain network services such as DNS, LDAP, and NTP
  • Manage, monitor, and optimize on-line, near-online and off-line storage systems (NAS, SAN, NFS etc)
  • Plan and implement smooth transitions between product revisions and application deployments
  • Maintain documentation for systems and data storage process and procedures
  • Provide 24x7 on-call coverage in a rotating schedule
Experience / Skills Required:
Required Skills:
  • RedHat Linux, Windows Server, TCP/IP Networking, SSH, Bourne, Perl and shell scripting, Cisco IOS, load balancers. Familiar with network distributed computing environments and experience with running large (300 plus servers) datacenter and high transactional production environments.
  • Strong shell scripting using standard conventions
  • Basic network adapter configuration and routing
  • Strong problem solving and analysis of system and application errors
  • Configuration and use of ssh, scp, ntp, mail (sendmail)
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with customers, vendors, and other teams to isolate and resolve issues
  • Strong ability to gather and quickly analyze data through dynamic scripting or managed collection of data to isolate issues
  • Effective in the use of standard operating system tools and utilities to generate structured results or data in a portable manner across multiple servers
  • Effective understanding and implementation of software and process protection methods to guard against security breaches and intrusion
  • Effective automation and/or job scheduling skills using cron or other methods to produce repeatable results on a periodic basis
Additional Skills:
  • F5 Networks/A10 Networks hardware load balancer use of VIPs and pools
  • Monitoring using SNMP, MRTG, Nagios, SolarWinds
  • Understanding of commercial high-availability data center access policies
  • Experience in designing and deploying environments for JBoss or J2EE application server systems with Apache/Tomcat/JBoss front end web servers and Oracle/MySQL backend databases; administration of Oracle or MySQL database, Windows/UNIX integration, experience with large RAID, SAN or NAS deployments a plus.
  • Strong writing skills to effectively communicate root cause analysis and other feedback to customers and vendors
  • Working knowledge of HP SiteScope, Solarwinds, or other monitoring tools
  • Familiarity with dynaTrace
  • Administration of Windows servers
  • Administration of databases including Oracle, MySQL, and SQL Server
  • Working knowledge of SQL
  • Good graphing skills with Excel or other graphing tools
Education Required:
BS in Computer Science or related field OR equivalent in work experience.
