To provide high quality, safe, compassionate patient care in an acute care setting under the direction of the Registered Profession Nurse, and supports the mission, vision and philosophy of the department of nursing and the institution.
1.Prepares the OR Suite for the scheduled procedure utilizing the physicians' preference card and knowledge of the scheduled procedure.
2.Anticipates the needs of the surgical team and prepares the room accordingly.
3.Assists the surgical team during the operation, maintaining patient comfort and safety.
4.Maintains the integrity of the sterile field and monitors and reports any breaks in sterile technique, while practicing aseptic technique.
5.Participates and monitors the proper instrument, sponge and needle count according to the policy and procedure of the department, and reports any deficit in the count.
6.Maintains and cares for the equipment by cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing according to manufacturer recommendations, departmental policy and procedure, and infection control protocol.
7.Maintains an acceptable level of supplies in assigned area, and completes assigned tasks in a timely manner.
8.Maintains attendance, punctuality and dress code in accordance with departmental policy.
9.Demonstrates knowledge and adherence to hospital and departmental policy and procedure.
High School Diploma or the equivalent
Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technician Program
