JOB DESCRIPTION: Recruitment is for permanent full time. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the close supervision of the Sr. Accounting Officer, Supervisor while receiving training; ensures completion of the Inmate Trust Accounting/Cashier Office duties at the California Correctional Center. Functions as the Cashier for the Accounting Office which duties include daily receipting in all incoming checks and cash for Support, the Inmate Trust Funds and Inmate Welfare Fund. These include electronic funds, Mailroom Receipts of checks, money orders and cash in mail, scrip, car wash, range fees, accounts receivables, etc. Track and log sales for employee meal coupons for the institution as well as 18 outlaying conservation camps. Assists with scrip sales. Monitors all scrip boxes and maintains control of daily reconciliations. Track and record incoming payroll clearances. Process releases from Personnel. Sort and distribute master payroll and other warrants. Prepare and submit stop payments on payroll warrants and checks when required. Answer staff questions regarding payroll. Track Revolving Fund Salary Advances issued by Personnel. Liaison with the cash unit for obtaining checks for Salary Advances, A/Rs, and cancelled garnishments for BIS checks printing at the institution. Ensure that appropriate documentation is returned to the cash unit in a timely manner. Maintain logs and backup documentation at the institution. After receiving clearance from Personnel log and mail garnishment checks to appropriate agencies and individuals. Complete tracking for any payroll warrants mailed to the conservation camps as well as individuals. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures; governmental accounting and budgeting; the uniform accounting system and financial organization and procedures of the State of California and related laws, rules, and regulations; principles of business management, including office methods and procedures; principles of public finance; business law. Knowledge of principles and techniques of personnel management and supervision; and planning, organizing, and directing the work of others.
