Senior Software Engineer – Photo Books Engineering Team

Shutterfly’s Photo Books engineering team is seeking to add a key contributor who would be instrumental in the design and development of web applications, products and features. The ideal candidate should have a background building mobile and web applications and technical experience in JavaScript, HTML5, or mobile application development. This position will report to the Sr. Manager, Photo Books Engineering and be located either in Phoenix, AZ or Redwood City, CA.

Collaborate with product managers, interaction designers, operations, and other members of the project team in requirements specification, feasibility analysis, detailed engineering analysis and launch planning

Design and development of highly dynamic and interactive Web 2.0 web-based UIs

Design and build MVC applications to support core Shutterfly features, applications and products

Work with middleware applications to implement applications, features and products for Shutterfly’s website

Participate in design reviews of web application components and provide guidance for interoperability with middleware and service layers

Ensure application is highly scalable to handle huge site traffic with very low latency

Design and development of the Shutterfly front-end for our next-generation sharing environment used by millions of users

Key Skills and Experience:
5+ years of experience in production-quality JavaScript

Experience with JavaScript as an object-oriented language

Exceptional skills with cross-browser HTML, CSS, and DOM manipulation

Experience developing and working with RESTful web services

Experience with serialization/deserialization for RPC and message exchange using binary XML and JSON

Experience with mobile application development is a plus

Familiarity with Node.js is a plus

Strong object-oriented design and programming skills

Desire to mentor others in understanding and implementing software engineering best practices

Understanding of integration patterns and pattern-based designs

Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies

Desire and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing, dynamic environment

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

BS/MS in Computer Science highly desirable

This position is available in both Redwood City, CA and Phoenix, AZ.
