        Day to Day (what a typical day or week look like in this role) The Cost Modeling Analyst is responsible for developing accurate and consistent cost models for parts that will be used to report the estimated product cost. These estimates will be used to determine product development/launch feasibility and profit forecasts. This includes: Cost Modeling parts and assemblies using various modeling software applications, generating output reports, filing in databases Cost reporting to Cost Modeling Manager and Target Costing Manager Meetings with Engineering, Target Costing, and Procurement to support cost reduction activity Creation of specialized cost models that reflect Whirlpool supplier manufacturing and supply chain What You Will Do Develop and own plastic parts/assembly cost models. Plan and execute vendor visits to conduct research for development/validation of cost models. Engage in various activities with cross functional teams utilizing material cost/design knowledge to drive cost/quality improvement. Improve day to day procurement and engineering practices by infusing knowledge and processes into mainstream negotiation/product development activities. Provide expertise to specific commodity groups, regarding the various processes for the manufacturing of plastic parts/assemblies and the cost structure of these industries in the relevant producing regions. This is a highly visible position that drives a world-class product cost knowledge base that will enable the Global Sourcing Strategy, including optimizing supply base negotiations, supporting the target costing process / value engineering efforts, ensuring best cost at First Launch of new products, and ultimately resulting in cost leadership and sustained competitive advantage. What You Need To Succeed BS in Engineering, Supply Chain or Finance. 3 years experience as an engineer working in a plastics part/tooling design, operations, manufacturing or supply chain environment. Must have familiarity with the manufacturing procedures used to produce various plastic components (multi cavity, insert molding, 2-shot, overmold, extrusion, blow molding, etc.) Must have basic knowledge of commonly used plastic materials characteristics (shrinkage, viscosity, strength, etc.) Other requirements include: Financial analysis skills that center on understanding the financial impact of changes to design specification, manufacturing process, and supply chain costs. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, CAD programs, and product evaluation software. (Experience with DFMA© or related software products is a plus.) Experience with lean manufacturing process (Toyota approach), design for assembly, design for manufacturing, and manufacturing cost structure analysis. Solid ability to use and demonstrate statistical and problem solving tools. Other skills that contribute to the success of this position include: Technical trouble shooting & problem solving, creative capabilities, applied engineering principles, manufacturing technologies, drawing comprehension, and technical writing ability.
