The Clinical Research Nurse IV (CRN IV) is a registered nurse who assists nursing administrators and principal investigators by providing leadership for the cohort of CRNs. This individual is responsible for ensuring that CRNs are competent, compliant with policies/procedures/regulatory requirements, and that their functions are integrated with all members of the research team. The CRN IV works with nursing and research administration to ensure that CRN resources are deployed appropriately and in accordance with budgetary and program needs. The CRN IV also carries a clinical trial/protocol management responsibility and ensures that activities required for the protection of human subjects by the IRB (entitled "Committee on Clinical Investigations" at CHLA) are completed, that patients and families are prepared for participation in clinical protocols, and that effective methods for protocol management are used in collaboration with the investigator, IRB specialist, attending MDs, clinical research associates, and all other members of the research team. The CRN IV oversees the direct nursing care provided by other licensed/non-licensed personnel in the research area and supervises all aspects of clinical trials. The CRN IV demonstrates commitment to the patient and family focused model of care.
