Analytical / NIR Specialist – Overland Park, KS

This is a Full-Time, Exempt position

Position Summary:
The Analytical Supervisor / NIR Specialist position is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the daily activities within the Central Lab analytical area. The successful candidate will work directly with commercial, operation, and mill lab manager personnel in the day to day activities of the lab. The candidate must effectively communicate horizontally and vertically throughout the organization and routinely report back to the Central Lab Manager. The candidate must be safety oriented and accept and foster change as it occurs.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor of Science degree, Analytical Chemistry, or related field is preferred
·
Direct experience and knowledge of NIR spectroscopic methods
·
Maintain NIR Calibration development and bias adjustments for local mill locations using Network system
·
Developed, establish, and maintain the Divisional Preventative Maintenance program for NIR systems
·
Knowledge of statistical process control and database functions to support local mill lab managers
·
Working knowledge and experience in the food industry operating lab equipment (e.g. combustion protein, Foss InfraXact, Farinograph, Falling Number, Moisture, Ash) as well as wet chemistry protocols and equipment used to determine quality attributes of wheat, flour and other cereal grains

The candidate should possess a solid understanding of chemistry fundamentals (AACC or AOAC methods)
·
Understanding of or the ability to learn the wheat flour milling process
·
Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems. Must be able to use all aspects of the Microsoft Office applications (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access) and a willingness to learn and become proficient with in-house programs presently used at ADM
·
Exceptional organization skills needed in order to maintain lab data and generate reports as required to fulfill the customer and regulatory requirements

Must be able to direct, lead, and motivate lab personnel to accomplish the daily quality requirements of the Central Lab
·
This position will require hands-on laboratory expertise and the commitment to producing timely, consistent and accurate analytical results
·
Position will require approximately 20% travel
