Gain valuable business experience at a Fortune 100 company!

Liberty Mutual Insurance's internship programs give you a chance to work on a variety of critical business assignments, test your skills, use your academic knowledge, and match your interests to a real job.

As an Underwriting Intern at Liberty Mutual Insurance, you will focus on developing the skills necessary for success by assisting underwriting professionals

with day-to-day job assignments and by participating in additional training or project work. The company's internship program is intended to provide students the opportunity to practice business skills learned in school while gaining real-world work experience.

Our underwriters focus on answering two fundamental questions: should we write a policy for a particular customer and what is the fair price for the risk that we would incur by writing the policy?

On the surface, these questions may seem straightforward, but

our underwriters must be smart, responsive problem solvers who can dig a little deeper for the answers

. You will need to rely on your strong analytic, communication, and negotiation skills to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

While your assignments will vary over time as you gain experience and skills, interns will typically perform some of the work of an entry-level Underwriter.

Responsibilities:
Learn the basics of underwriting and how to use various systems and applications

Assist Underwriters/Underwriting Assistants with policy issuance, prospects, new business and endorsements

Review, evaluate, and categorize incoming documents; verify information for accuracy/appropriateness; and follow up with others for missing or questionable data

Enter and retrieve information of varying complexity using computer systems and applications to update records, obtain information for others, and respond independently to most questions and problems

Prepare insurance forms/documents and correspondence

Process other insurance transactions to provide customer service and support efforts to acquire and retain profitable business

Build business and professional skills that will prepare you for leadership positions

Gain valuable real world experience with a Fortune 100 company

During this time, you'll be part of a diverse, experienced team of people who work hard, enjoy what they do, and have strong relationships with each other. Together, you'll work to meet goals central to Liberty Mutual's mission of "helping people live safer, more secure lives."

This is your chance to explore Liberty Mutual as a potential employer. We will provide you with a meaningful experience, along with the management support, tools, and resources you need to be successful. You will have the opportunity to participate in educational and social programs that will accelerate your development, as well as an online community of interns that will provide a collegial environment to help with your transition from school to work. You may also qualify for scholarships that will help with tuition costs.
