With beverage breaks (coffee or diet coke), hackathons and more. About the consultant role As a consultant member of our 24x7 tech operations team you will be optimizing all things database. The adventure: scale the company database's over time as the company grows from thousands of users to millions. Keeping the platform database's lighting fast is a goal, speed is a feature, uptime is key. You will be working with the ops team and engineering team. This job will be based in our headquarters, "the chronoplex" in the Mountain View, CA. We offer a competitive compensation package. Responsibilities
Keeping MySQL servers up 24x7
Query analysis and tuning
Hardware configuration and performance tuning
Implementing replication topologies
Profiling, monitoring, and alerting
Automating maintenance tasks.
Schema migrations (strategies for minimal downtime, etc) Qualifications
MyISAM and InnoDB storage engines
Operating system performance tuning (Ubuntu / XFS / LVM / ext3)
MyISAM full-text-search
External full-text-search tools (Sphinx, Lucene)
Object Relational Mapping (Active Record and AREL experience a plus)
Backup/ restore strategies and tools (LVM snapshots, Percona Xtra Backup, mysqldump)
Startup work ethic
Good, positive energy and attitude
Mastery of all things MySQL
You have to be an algorithm junkie
4+ years of experience as a MySQL DBA working with SaaS web applications.
Ability to communicate technical information and ideas in a manner that is easily understandable by others
Experience guiding decisions relative to costs and benefits of different technical options
Prefer a Master's or PhD; or another avenue of showing your smarts
Bonus Experienced with working with core technology for distributed systems such as: Exadata, Google GFS, Oracle Engine, Google Big Table, Google Dremmel, Green Plum, MongoDB, Neteeza, SQL Server Engine, mySQL, and Google Core Infrastructure Python and/or Django specific experience
