As a Biological Science Aid at the White Sulphur Springs National Fish Hatchery, you will provide technical support and assistance to professional personnel engaged in fish production and freshwater mussel propagation. Typical duties include:
Preparing diets for mussels and fish;
Collecting mussel broodstock;
Assisting in sorting and spawning rainbow trout;
Assisting in enumerating fish eggs and juvenile mussels;
Cleaning aquaculture equipment and tanks;
Keeping detailed records for use by hatchery personnel;
Assisting with mussel culture operations; and
Maintaining buildings and equipment QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
In order to be qualified for this position, you must:
A. Have completed of l year of study that included at least 6 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. - OR -
B. Possess six months of general experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position and/or provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of biology. - OR -
C. Possess a combination of general experience and post-high school education that, when combined, equals 100% of the total requirement.
