General Summary: Lays out, fabricates, and assembles metalworking dies, molds, and machine tool fixtures by analyzing blueprints, sketches, models, and engineering or shop specifications. Uses a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Computes dimensions; determines machining and material parts required. Performs precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions; recommends revisions in design and/or substitutions in material based on machine ability or fabrication problems encountered; and solves problems relating to unusual materials, work-holding arrangements, machine settings, fabrication methods, and production process. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
Essential Duties and responsibilities:
Insures that all molds are prepared for daily production, cleaned and maintained.
Maintain mold history records.
Make repairs and improvements to molds as needed. Documents all repairs and maintenance. Ensures a complete maintenance request accompanies each tool after a production run.
Builds jigs and fixtures as determined by engineerin g, quality or production.
Perform other duties as may be periodically assigned.
Responsible for maintaining, repairing, and altering molds, fixtures and ancillary equipment.
Must work with in-house mold engineering and designers regarding details on new and existing molds.
Must be available to deal with mold problems as and when they arise during production.
Experience working with precision and close tolerance molds using engineering resins.
Working with insert molds, reel to reel molds and rotary molds is a definite plus.
Must also be experienced with troubleshooting molds. Should understand how to improve mold performance (Polishing, etc.).
Must understand hot runner components. Qualified candidates should have at least 5 years related experience (injection molding) and should have strong skills with all tool room equipment.
Must be proficient with mechanics hand tools, calipers, gauges, and micrometers. Should be capable of reading and interpreting engineering drawings/mold prints.

Qualifications:
Class A mold maker with 12 years minimum mold making experience .
Must be capable of building proto-type molds to complex class 101 multi-cavity, high precision plastic injection molds. .
Sound knowledge of mold design, tool steels, and plastic material, i.e., flow properties, shrink rates and processing characteristics to aid in the mold design and review process.
Knowledge of some or all of the following software a must:: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, AutoCAD, SolidWorks and Mastercam.
Education and /or experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and two years vocational machinist training.
Minimum of 10 years machine shop/mold making experience
Ability to read blueprints
Thorough understanding of injection mold design, construction and materials.
General knowledge of the injection molding process.
Good leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Language skills:
Good communication and written skills
Computer skills:
Knowledge of some or all of the following software a must:: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, AutoCAD, SolidWorks and Mastercam.
Physical demands:
Ability to operate all tool room equipment proficiently (i.e. mill, grinder, lathe, EDM and welder).
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
