Trains, develops and implements custodial cleaning and quality control measures to enhance the skills and performance of departmental employees; provides orientation and on-going programs on-site and in a classroom setting. Facilitates training, partnering with University constituents and outside resources. The Training and Development Specialist works alongside employees in the demonstration of appropriate techniques.
Assumes the responsibilities of other supervisors in their absence; interacts with custodians throughout the campus on a daily basis; encourages the team concept. The Training & Development Specialist responds to customer needs and complaints immediately; provides weekend coverage for housekeeping groups that work during the weekend or during special events. Performs weekend/holiday standby coverage on a scheduled and/or emergency basis. While on call, must be available to respond 24 hours a day including holidays 4-5 times per calendar year per supervisor as scheduled.
Provides input for the performance appraisals; coaches employees on concerns regarding compliance with work expectations; documents performance issues and initiates disciplinary process as necessary; assists with the interview and selection process of job applicants. Keeps the Director and Associate Director informed of operational issues that need resolution and provides suggestions toward solving issues.
Ensures that housekeeping staff has all the necessary equipment and supplies to effectively accomplish duties; orders supplies for buildings and checks on previous week's orders and supplies; performs annual inventory of equipment. Prepares work orders daily and identifies priority items versus routine items. Checks with employees about work-related issues and seeks to resolve the problems as soon as they arise. Daily observes compliance with safety issues. Supervise temporary staff daily as needed.
Participates in facilities team meetings; work with special interest groups such as conferences and Alumni Association for accommodations and special needs. The Training and Development Specialist prepares special and periodic reports as required; monitors quality assurance and customer service with employees, customers and students.
Bachelor's degree with concentration in personnel management, education, business or equivalent technical knowledge and/or work experience related to Building Services operations. Work experience equivalent to three to four years. Driver's License and CPR certification necessary.
A demonstrated commitment to continued education and personal development is preferred. Certified or registered status with a professional organization in the Building Services/Housekeeping field and/or equivalent technical knowledge and/or work experience is preferred.
