Description and Desired Qualifications

CH2M HILL Field Health & Safety Technician - Prudhoe Bay , Alaska
The challenge? Helping ensure the supply of our world's oil and gas. At CH2M HILL, we deliver solutions that span the entire breadth of the oil industry. Our Field Health & Safety Technician job will provide you with the opportunity to work and live on the North Slope of Alaska on a rotational basis. Each night you will be responsible for implementation and maintenance of the HSE Management Plan for one or more construction projects in Alaska . You should be a self motivated, detail oriented professional with one year of progressive work experience in the health and safety field.
In addition, you should have OHST, CHST, or CSP certifications and a BS in Occupational Safety and Health, along with prior experience working on the North Slope. You should have a desire to grow both personally and professionally with each new project.

Our Field Health & Safety Technicians :
Provide leadership and preserve a safety culture within the project

Conduct audits of the project site to verify compliance and identify unsafe conditions

Maintain documentation necessary to comply with the site safety management plan, OSHA, and other applicable regulations

Organize and conduct safety meetings and trainings

Establish construction safety training requirements and assist in training material development

Provide technical support to accident investigations; event analysis and corrective action plans

Provide input to subcontractor review process to ensure appropriate consideration of HSE performance Physical Demand/Work Environment :

Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, reach through low and high ranges and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures and while wearing arctic gear.

Lift 40 lbs from floor to knuckles x 2 (e.g., box of paper)with a 12 second interval,

Lift 25 lbs from floor to waist x 2 (e.g., fire extinguisher) with a 12 second interval,

Carry 40 lbs for 50 feet level surface (e.g., box of paper),

Stair Climb and Carry Test: While carrying 30 lbs with one hand and using the other hand to hold onto a railing for safety, walk up and down 2 flights of stairs, 13 steps per flight for a total of 26 steps. Self-paced. Allow a 60 second rest break and then continue the one-handed carry on a level surface for 150 feet ,

Slanted Ladder: Climb up and down 10 rungs x 3 for a total of 30 rungs. (Allow a 60 second rest break after climbing up and down 15 rungs.)

Repetitive Kneeling Test: Perform from standing, kneel on one knee, alternate from left to right knee, x 5 each knee,

Repetitive Stoop Test: Perform from standing position, bend forward at waist as far as possible without bending the knees with hands reaching toward the floor x 5, self-paced, but continuous,

Repetitive Squat Test: Perform a functional squat and stand x 5, and

Repetitive Twist and Flex Test: Perform from standing alternate toe touches x 5 to each side to assess ability to twist and flex the trunk repetitively.

Additional Information:
Position subject to post-offer pre-employment fitness for duty evaluation.

This is a night shift position

The position is located on the North Slope and requires a rotational work schedule (3 weeks on and 3 weeks off).

Relocation assistance to Alaska is not provided, however transportation between Anchorage and Prudhoe Bay is provided.

CH2M HILL will not sponsor an employment visa (e.g., H-1B visa, etc) to fill this position.

Basic Qualifications

BS in Occupational Safety and Health or related field
Valid driver's license (applicants must provide a five year DMV record at the time of application)
Three year work experience with Office Suite programs (i.e. Word, Excel, & Outlook)
CHST and/or OHST or ability to achieve within 6 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications

Strong preference will be given to graduates of applicable ABET accredited programs.
CSP and or CIH certifications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of state and federal safety, industrial hygiene and OSHA regulations.
Skill to manage one's own time and the time of others.
Skill in prioritizing and executing tasks in a high pressure environment.
Skill in managing a team effort.
Ability to develop, implement and perform detailed site health and safety audits.
Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others understand.
