Inspects daily work performed by contractors on highway and bridge construction projects in Richland County to ensure compliance with standard specifications, drawings and plans. Inspections includes, but not limited to, asphalt and concrete paving, earthwork and base construction, construction of concrete structures, work zone safety and traffic control, erosion control and prevention, etc. Notifies contractor and direct supervisor of any issues that occur onsite and ensures conflicts are resolved in an appropriate and timely manner. Documents daily construction activity and records field measurements on standard inspection forms and field diaries. Completes SiteManager daily diaries, construction forms, and other reports related to performed inspection work. Accurately measures, calculates, and records quantities of installed contract pay items in the field and enters the information into SiteManager diaries for accurate contractor payment. Samples and performs various field tests on construction materials including, but not limited, to asphalt, concrete, and soil for compliance with applicable specifications. Ensures materials are sampled and tested at required frequencies. Ensures manufacturer certifications and other required quality control documents are obtained prior to the installation or use of engineered construction materials, products, and devices. Uses survey instruments, metering devices, tape measures, and other test equipment to establish and maintain the required construction line and grade. Assists Resident Construction Engineer and Richland Maintenance with the measurement of estimated quantities of pay items required on upcoming highway resurfacing and pavement preservation projects. Performs other duties as required by immediate supervisor.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
A high school diploma and two (2) years of experience that is directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
May be required to work overtime, nighttime, weekends, and/or holidays.
