Overview:
Direct the execution of category management across a set of categories – continuously optimize assortment and collaborate with field

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of Category Directors
  • Develop insight-based category strategies
Synthesize category data and insights into coherent assortment strategies
Communicate assortment strategies with internal and external business partners
  • Drive execution of category management
Coordinate with Category Directors to understand current assortment and identify opportunities to improve assortment
Define and maintain assortment guardrails for all product categories in collaboration with Operational Merchandising
Collaborate with Sourcing team members to execute the optimal supplier strategy to deliver the chosen assortment
  • Set direction for pricing of the core assortment
Analyze assortment pricing and profitability
Determine optimal pricing strategy based on category strategy and other market insights
Recommend pricing strategies to the field

Qualifications:
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Master’s Degree and/or MBA preferred.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
“Strategic thinker and category expert with a combination of analytical and conceptual problem solving and people skills”

Intrinsic capabilities
Strategic thinker who combines top-down problem-solving and direction-setting with ability to lead complex and detailed analytics
Strong people leader who can manage group of category managers + supporting resources
Effective collaborator with good influencing skills able to work across functions and with wide variety of stakeholders
Able to deal with a certain level of ambiguity (will need to take overall approach and refine it based on specific category nuances)

Formal experience
Category specific expertise (e.g., in categories they will manage) Minimum 5+ years experience
Category management experience with one or more steps in the 6 step process (e.g. sourcing)
Knowledge of Sysco’s business model, organization and P&L structure
Some experience with P&L accountability (e.g. a category P&L) including planning and budgeting

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position must be performed from the Corporate facility in Houston, Texas.
Must be able to do limited travel to Sysco facilities or operating companies.
