We are seeking a San Antonio, TX based Solaris/LINUX Systems Administrator to join our support team. The Solaris/LINUX systems administration team supports all business lines in AllianceBernstein and is responsible for global production support and systems implementation. Coverage is provided by a global team of SA’s located in London, Bangalore and the U.S.

The Systems Administrator must be familiar with day-to-day operational tasks covering various business computer technologies. They must be proficient with operational disciplines such as project management, problem management, change management, network/server monitoring, systems monitoring, server backups/restores, and multi-platform integration/communication.
This role is part of a global team responsible for support and implementation of Solaris/LINUX based systems and as such, the System Administrator will be expected to collaborate on new infrastructure engineering efforts. Our organization offers hands-on experience with other core infrastructure technologies outside Systems Administration responsibilities. The Systems Administrator can expect to work directly with various IT engineering teams to identify problems and develop/implement solutions. Examples are: a) Enterprise backup b) Enterprise storage c) Virtualization infrastructure d) Enterprise monitoring and more.

Job responsibilities:
•Rotational on-site/on-call incident support coverage (availability to work weekends and weeknights is mandatory).
•Provide support for new firm initiatives, manage infrastructure projects, manage systems monitoring/backup/inventory, create/update support documentation, and perform server maintenance.
•This role is unique in that the System Administrator will be given the opportunity to work hands-on with other infrastructure technologies such as enterprise backup, enterprise storage, enterprise monitoring, enterprise file transfers, and enterprise job scheduling. Our organization is flat and direct access to key decision makers is fairly common.
Job Qualifications
•Bachelor’s of Science in an IT discipline or equivalent work experience.
•4 + years of experience in Linux/ Solaris Systems Administration.
•Must be a self-motivated/self-starter, with a sense of urgency and able to work independently without direct supervision.
•Excellent troubleshooting skills, able to clearly distinguish between root cause vs. symptoms.
•Excellent writing skills (Documentation, Status updates, etc).
•Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of people from different cultural backgrounds and successfully communicate with those whose first language is not English.
•Shell programming (Borne or C or K), Perl, RedHat LINUX (v4, 5, 6), Solaris (9,10), HP/Intel based servers (DL580, DL380, DL360), NIS, NFS, DNS, RedHat LVM, Symantec Volume Manager, Symantic Clustering, use/operate EMC PowerPath/SYMCLI, Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook), use/operate Veritas NetBackup, use/operate Veritas clusters, create simple RPM’s, OS builds (kickstart) and patching.
•Overall technical skills assessment will be based on his/her ability to do the work using the various aforementioned skills without assistance and with full understanding of the consequences of their actions.
For the interview, candidates must provide one or more writing samples covering topics such as Post-mortem report, or general work notification, or technical documentation (how-to documents).
Preferred Qualifications:
•Project management, Technical writing/documentation, VBScript, Java, HTML, Database (Sybase or Oracle or MSSQL or Open source DB), PowerPath, VMWare virtual infrastructure, SYMCLI, NetBackup, Apache, C/C++ (or other languages), Centrify application suite, LINUX OS performance tuning and system security.
• Second spoken language (Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, French).
