Baystate Health is an integrated health care delivery system serving a population of nearly 1 million people in western Massachusetts. Baystate Medical Center is the Western Campus of Tufts University School of Medicine, has the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the region and the only neonatal and pediatric intensive care units.
Under the direction of the Coordinator, Insurance and Financial Counseling, provide financial counseling services to patients, in assigned inpatient and outpatient settings. Secure sponsorship for uninsured/underinsured patients: Screen patients for eligibility for a variety of grant or governments sponsored programs. Assist patients in completing applications for Mass Health, Free Care, Healthy Start, Children’s Security Plan and any other agency that will provide financial aid. Track status of initiated applications to facilitate and expedite the approval process. Arrange payment plans for patients as necessary. Identify and counsel Medicare Patients without secondary insurance and assist with applications for supplemental coverage. Follow up with patient previously enrolled in Mass Health or HealthNet programs to complete re-determination process. Counsel patients approved for Mass Health Basic or Essentials to select a Managed Care Plan and Primary Care Clinician. Ensure all billing information has been obtained for liability cases. Counsel parents to ensure coverage for their newborns. Adheres to system and department compliance policies any and all applicable laws and regulations.
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
Knowledge of hospital billing functions and applications. Knowledge of all MassHealth coverage types and programs. Knowledge of Medicare benefits and the ability to read and understand the CWF. Proficient in completion of disability applications. Proficient in counseling both outpatients and inpatients. Knowledgeable in a variety of alternate sources of financial aid. Achievement and sustainment of productivity targets and quality assurance targets. Solves problems independently. Resource to team. Team Player, Commitment, Flexibility, Problem-solving, Communication, Service Excellence, Organizational Awareness, Learning, Personal Responsibility and Emotional Maturity.
BILINGUAL (ENGLISH/SPANISH) REQUIRED.
Full-time, 40 hours per week. Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 7:00pm, Occasional Coverage at the North Campus;
Testing Requirements: Typing 25 WPM with 3% error rate or less, Alphanumeric and Numeric tests will be administered.
