Saturdays to Wednesdays, 11pm to 7am

Example of Duties:

Carries out specific responsibilities of the Coordinator in his/her absence and on weekends, including supervision of assigned staff. Communicates to staff all information concerning internal operations and changes in policy and procedure. Communicates and acts upon issues and concerns of the shift.

Provides appropriate conflict management and elementary crisis management skills.

Assists in scheduling counseling and fill in staff to ensure shift coverage and shelter safety.

Make rounds throughout the unit in order to ensure overall safety of guests and shelter environment.

Searches clients for contraband upon arrival in shelter.

Conducts and facilitates shift meetings in collaboration with the Coordinator.

Assists Coordinator in preparing time sheets for shift. Assists in the training of counselors.

Reads the shelter log daily and makes appropriate log entries on important information on guests, referrals and results of rounds.

Communicates with other sites and agencies as needed and appropriate.

Answer phones and refers visitors, donors, and volunteers.

Oversees Boston Police Dept. paid detail officer, and assist him/her in identifying responsibilities.

Attends required meetings, training sessions and continuing education classes as needed.

Conducts informal counseling sessions with guests to assess needs and follow up with the case managers.

Performs various administrative tasks such as maintaining accurate records, recording log notes and data entry. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of one (1) year’s experience in Human Services or High School Diploma/GED Certificate and three (3) years minimum Human Services or relevant life experience may be substituted.

Previous experience with homeless, low income or recovering populations helpful

Strong communication skills required. Computer skills preferred

Valid MA drivers license and safe driving record

This position requires direct client/patient contact and as a result of such contact, certain immunizations will be recommended and/or required prior to commencement of employment duties.
A Criminal Offenders Records Information request must be completed for this position, however, a record is not an automatic bar to employment but is reviewed in relation to the job applied for.
Boston residency required, or willingness to relocate.
