The Eugene Water & Electric Board is currently seeking a Network Specialist responsible for Linux Administration who will configure, secure, administer, tune and optimize Red Hat Linux servers and related components for reliability, availability and performance. This position is responsible for the successful installation and management (physical and virtual) of operating system and utilities software while maintaining server configuration and build process. The successful candidate will:
Apply firmware/software upgrades and patches to maintain currency with vendor release levels and resolve problems.
Coordinate with team members to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of Linux systems to meet business demands.
Define, document and perform system backups and recovery procedures.
Monitor and test system performance and provide performance statistics and reports.
Recommend, purchase, install and repair IBM X series hardware.
Install and maintain developer tools (compilers, debuggers, development environments, editors, etc.)
Develop and maintain technical documentation and disaster recovery procedures.

Minimum Training and Experience Required:
Requirements As A Qualification & Progression Experience: Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in Local Area Network and workstation hardware and software support. Significant competence levels in network support are required. Experience in designing and working in a secure, structured datacenter environment including structured cable pathway, power and environmental systems. Preferred experience with technology from vendors: Cisco, IBM, Microsoft, Red Hat, Juniper, CommVault, Panduit, Rittal, VMWare, Altiris, Oralcle, Interactive Intelligence.
Education and/or training: Two or four year degree in Computer Science with technical courses in Networks, Personal Computer hardware, Operating System software or other applicable technical education. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be qualifying.

Physical activities (exertion, environmental conditions, risks, safety, etc.): Work is performed in a variety of locations, including workbench, end-users work station, underneath desks and wiring closets. Cleaning PC's and printers may expose employee to large amounts of dust and printer toner. Frequent walking and long periods of standing while troubleshooting problems. Frequent lifting of items up to and above 50 pounds.
