At Wayfair, Category Management Teams are responsible for all facets of an individual business in segments such as Shoes, Outdoor, Furniture, Housewares, Office, Pet, Lighting, and Luggage to name a few. Daily projects include analyzing sales trends, communicating with suppliers, and using innovative and creative marketing strategies to promote the sale of our products through Wayfair.com.

The most successful Category Management Associates are the ones who actively seek to understand how all the Wayfair teams operate and intersect. On any given day you’ll interact with members of our Customer Sales & Service team (talking daily with customers on the phone), Customer Acquisition team (search engine marketing), Customer Retention team (email marketing to existing Wayfair customers), and Supplier Operations team (improving supplier performance), and our Finance team. These teams are essential to keeping our categories running smoothly and profitably. Understanding how each of these teams work will ensure that your category operates like a well-oiled machine.

As a Category Associate you are a consummate learner. You have an insatiable need to understand how things work, coupled with an insatiable desire to make things work better. Our categories run like mini-businesses. Category teams are tight-knit, collaborative and entrepreneurial in spirit. As a result, teams enjoy a real sense of ownership over their category. The ability to work well in a team, and work until the job is done, is a hallmark of top Category Associates that will go on to become business leaders at Wayfair.

Responsibilities include:
Cultivating and managing relationships with new current suppliers and setting up relationships to bring a new product online

Vendor negotiations and promotion planning

In-office strategy meetings with suppliers

Analyzing competitor marketing and pricing

Interpret sales data to strategize revenue and profit growth opportunities for a category

Scoping new markets in the online channel

Traveling to trade shows with Category Managers (4-6 trips per year)

Researching categories and vendors to build out selection

Collaborating frequently with other Wayfair departments (Customer Sales & Service, Customer Acquisition, Customer Retention, Supplier Operations, and Finance) in order to drive revenue and profits

Qualifications:
Professional, bright and customer focused

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Can “think on your feet” – quick with alternative solutions to problems

Superior and innovative problem-solving skills – driven to dissect and determine root causes of problems and implement solutions quickly

Comfortable managing large amounts of data; familiarity with SQL helpful

Proven ability to thrive as part of a team or individually

An entrepreneurial spirit and mindset
