Responsibilities

The Director, Surgical Services & Anesthesia is responsible for the operations of the Operating Rooms, Central Processing Department, Pre-anesthesia Testing Department, Pre-anesthesia Unit, Anesthesia Department, Post Anesthesia Care Units, Endoscopy Department, and the Anesthesia Pain Clinic. The Director, Surgical Services & Anesthesia is responsible for assuring that all surgical, anesthetic, endoscopic, and pain clinic procedures are integrated and coordinated with patient needs and the needs of other health care providers within the institution. The Director carries the responsibility for integrating the strategic plan of the organization with the operations of the Department of Surgical Services & Anesthesia. This Director has an integral role on the Surgical Growth Team, developing and supporting relationships with Medical Group and external surgeon colleagues. This Director, in collaboration with the Chief of Surgical Services & Anesthesia, assures ongoing communication and process development through the Surgical Service Line. This position provides oversight for the development of safety practices, compassionate care, a memorable patient experience and efficiencies, integrating programs to meet patient needs within the hospital. This individual uses dynamic, humanistic, and team-oriented relationship talents to create an environment marked by innovation and continued improvement.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Master's degree in business or health related field. Minimum of 5 years administrative experience with increasing scope of responsibility.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Registered Nurse, must be licensed by the Michigan Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse; must be certified as a Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR).

CRNA must be certified by the Council on Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist; licensed by the Michigan Board of Nursing as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

Provides leadership and direction for the development of strategies to advance areas of responsibility

Plans, implements and evaluates all programs and services, assuring appropriate resources and effective execution

Serves as a role model for leadership and creates an environment that recognizes the centrality of employee team members as our greatest resource

Collaborates with senior leaders, HFMG leadership, HFHS staff and external resources to achieve vision and strategic direction for areas of responsibility.

Facilitates a highly matrix approach in the development of services and display the ability to work effectively within the health system's decision-making and organizational structure.

Effectively communicates key information to stakeholders, both internal and external (includes government officials, university faculty, regulatory agencies and the community at large), representing the hospital and the HFHS.

Leads multidisciplinary teams and committees pertaining to service areas

Creates an environment of continual process improvement and adaptive innovation responsive to the needs of the customer

Accountable for all aspects of financial performance and growth within areas of responsibility and for HFHS

Coordinates and implements process and procedures to ensure compliance with policies and accrediting agency requirements, and effectively manage costs.

Leads development of IT strategies and ensures support for execution of business and patient care strategies relative to areas of responsibility.

Analyzes and evaluates potential internal and external impacts of new services and changes to the delivery systems within existing areas to ensure quality, efficient and safe operations.
