This position is part of the Southern California Edison’s (SCE) University and Campus Relations Internship Program.
This internship is scheduled for the summer of 2012, with an estimated start date of May/June 2012 and an estimated end date of August/September 2012.
This position will be in the Health Physics division within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) San Onofre Nuclear Generating Business Unit (SONGS). The successful candidate will be assigned to a seasoned staff member who will act as a mentor on assigned projects.
Typical responsibilities will include:
Implementing a new electronic neutron dosimeter.
Making enhancements to the dose-to-curie (activity) calculation process for waste characterization.
Evaluating current inventory of radioactive calibration sources to identify opportunities to consolidate and reduce in size.
Testing and implementing new portable alpha/beta contamination monitors.
Maintaining a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Performing other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
This position is part of SCE's University and Campus Relations Internship Program. To qualify for this program you must have an undergraduate degree and be currently working towards a graduate degree in Health Physics (Radiation Protection), Physics, Engineering or Chemistry at an accredited institution with a graduation date of December 2012 or later.
Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Health Physics coursework preferred.
Demonstrated experience researching information.
Demonstrated experience tracking information and monitoring data.
Demonstrated experience performing data analysis.
Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Demonstrated ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
Additional testing may be required as part of the selection process for this position.
