CHS has an opening for a full time Assistant Paramedic Supervisor to work collaboratively with our EMS Supervisor in a busy horse racing environment.
Must be able to provide oversight collaboratively in conjunction with the EMS supervisor to EMT's as well as Paramedics within the scope of practice as defined by NYSDOH, regional REMAC, REMSCO of NYC and Nassau County. Work hours are daily Wed thru Sunday hours coordinating emergency response and transport when necessary. This position will go travel between two horse tracks (Aqueduct and Belmont) during the year and will be required to own personal transportation.
Two to three years emergency response experience required
Emergency department experience a plus
Must have current Paramedic certification in NYC and Nassau County
Excellent communication skills
Computer literacy necessary as well as a strong organizational and scheduling skills
Must work well in a team environment
Minimum of 2 years previous supervisory experience of EMT’s and paramedics required
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist EMT’s and paramedics with assigned elements of patient treatment, physical examinations, and routine facilities and equipment maintenance, working within the limits of standards or accepted practice. Perform duties related to medical triage and medical support duties during potential emergency response activities which may include support outside the continental United States.
Respond to emergency medical calls, extricate or gain access to patients, provide emergency evaluation and treatment under direction of a paramedic, physician or nurse and in keeping with established standards of care and prescribed protocols, make assessment and treatment decisions as required by field circumstances.
Assist to perform any basic life support and advanced cardiac life support required in clinical or field environments as directed by operating procedures, protocols or directives, including monitoring of vital signs, administration of CPR, application of splints, slings and bandages, administration of oxygen and perform similar treatments under the direction of paramedic, physician or nurse.
Document medical information on patient charts and prepare emergency response reports in manual and computerized form. Prepare forms or logs as required to document medical and operational activities.
Assist with assigned elements of physical examination including; evaluate and record vital signs, instructing patients regarding obtaining lab specimens, wound care, medication precautions and directions on physical examination procedures, prepare medications for dispensing to patients, assist with the performance of audio and visual examinations, glaucoma screenings or other tests or procedures.
Perform any range of prescribed facility/equipment maintenance, patient assistance and instruction, record keeping or administrative routines including maintenance of clinical areas, prepare bio-hazardous waste for incineration, inventory and restock medical supplies in patient care areas, inspect and ensure the availability and quality control of medications and medical devices, sterilize surgical instruments and medical devices, clean and disinfect patient areas, maintain batteries for cardiac monitors and file lab and x-ray results.
Attend and participate in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, job requirements and policies.
Perform other assigned departmental operations to maintain workflow.
Assist in active implementation of company initiatives to ensure compliance with OSHA VPP, ISO and other mandated regulatory or conformance regulations/standards.
