The Herberger Young Scholars Academy is seeking a part-time, benefits eligible instructor to assist in the development/presentation of teaching programs and help facilitate learning in Science. This position will implement instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences. Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs. Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
-Implement instructional activities and products of students' learning by using current technologies, including, but not limited to hardware, software, and web 2.0 tools.
-Assist in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.
-Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
-Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process and orients incoming students as required.
-Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with parents on a weekly basis.
-Collaborate weekly with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
-Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community. Ensure that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
-Establish and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and peers. Demonstrate gains in student performance.
-Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating.
-Any other responsibilities as assigned by the HYSA Executive Director.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM and hours may fluctuate as needed.
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years of progressively responsible instructional or subject work experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Demonstrated Knowledge of: teaching principles, practices and procedures; Internet and web-related technologies; asynchronous development. Experience in: teaching applications; teaching online; individualizing teaching techniques for gifted students. Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
