BASIC JOB FUNCTION : Responsible for the HVAC, hydronic and mechanical systems at the NCAR Wyoming Supercomputing Center (NWSC) located in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
This is a journeyman level position responsible for the maintenance, repair and installation of facility HVAC/Plumbing at the NWSC facility. Additional skills necessary for overall maintenance is a plus. The objective is to obtain a team of specialists in each discipline willing to work together for overall team success. The employee must be willing to learn and assist with all aspects of facility maintenance while remaining proficient in his/her area of expertise. This facility will be staffed 24x7 and all trades will participate in shift rotation.
DUTIES INCLUDE :
Maintenance Duties :
Maintains building HVAC, refrigeration and plumbing systems. Monitors, maintains and repairs all building automation systems (BAS). Maintains building steam and hot water boilers. Operates building pneumatic and DDC control systems. Maintains hydronic and closed loop heating and cooling systems. Monitors and adjusts chemical levels on water treatment systems.
Performs all testing procedures using industry standard testing equipment. Assists other disciplines as needed.
Unscheduled and Emergency Repairs on Building Mechanical Systems :
Repairs those building mechanical systems listed in the maintenance duties section above. Interprets building monitoring system alarms and takes appropriate corrective actions. Performs unscheduled emergency repairs on facilities mechanical systems and components. Assumes the duties of on-call HVAC Tech on a scheduled calendar basis.
Construction Duties :
Installs mechanical equipment and systems as needed for facilities remodels and computing equipment installs including all associated support systems. Reads and interprets blueprints and schematic drawings. Assists in the design of mechanical system modifications. Specifies materials as needed to insure timely installations. Assists in design and installation of computer systems from single racks to major supercomputing procurements. Assists other disciplines as needed.
Administrative Duties :
Maintains proper documentation. Records times worked, materials used, work performed, maintenance performed, problems found, etc. using the maintenance management computer system. Maintains other required records, including time card. Maintains records and logs as needed to comply with all state, local and federal regulations relating to facilities operations.
Follows all UCAR and department policies. Maintains a safe, neat and orderly work area at all times. Maintains and safeguards all assigned tools. Maintains documents used for construction and maintenance procedures including but not limited to updating job plans and redlining construction drawings to reflect changes or as-built conditions.
REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE :
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED; and
- two years of technical school or equivalent training; and
- five to seven years of experience in facilities HVAC/Plumbing systems maintenance.
Must be licensed in at least one of the following:
- Journeyman plumber
- HVAC refrigeration
- Stationary Engineer
DESIRED (but not required) :
- Experience with programming.
- Administration level access to building automation or energy management systems.
