Gilt Groupe is seeking an experienced Men’s Assistant Buyer who has the technical and practical knowledge of the buying process in men’s contemporary clothing (lifestyle /weekend/sports). The ideal candidate will have experience from a discount retailer, be a proven self-starter who has a fashion-forward eye for trends, as well as a business mind for the inner-workings of the changing fashion world. A passion for luxury goods and a “can do” approach are musts.

The buyer will collaborate with various internal teams and external vendors to create the product selection that sets Gilt Groupe apart from all competition. The buying team will develop business strategies that drive sales through the assortment of products selected, pricing, promotion and ROI.

Responsibilities:

• Support the men’s merchandising team in the product selection that sets Gilt Groupe apart from all competition
• Establish and maintain vendor relationships and attend buying trips on a weekly basis
• Assist in negotiating buying terms with vendors (price, quantity, delivery terms, and markdown $)
• Create the Purchase Order (PO) for each buy or consignment deal with a vendor (retail, wholesale, Gilt cost and Gilt retail prices needed)
• Manage the Purchase Order (PO) process between Gilt Groupe and the respective brand
• Describe merchandise to be sold eloquently and effectively well in advance of a sale
• Deliver creative assets from the brand to Gilt Groupe’s Creative Team in a timely manner (images, press kits, reel assets, samples for photo shoots when possible)
• Present new brand recommendations regularly to Merchandising Team
• Keep abreast of industry trends and new product ideas by reading fashion magazines and visiting stores
• Attend to brand needs with respect to Gilt Groupe’s website

Qualifications:

•1-3 years buying experience
• Self-starter, ambitious in nature
• Love of men’s fashion and lifestyle product
•Strong understanding of merchandising financials, retail math and the ability to manage profitability
•Successful experience in buying in multi brand, multi vendor environment
•Experience in men’s sporting goods strongly preferred
•Knowledge of Open-to-Buy process
•Strong product sensibility
•Ability to analyze reports and draw conclusions/recommendations
•Ability to remain flexible and willing to change strategies, as business needs dictate
•Ability to lead team effectively and create an exciting workplace
•Discount retail experience strongly preferred
