Ophthalmologist with Subspecialty in Uveitis Department of OphthalmologyLoyola University Medical Center (Maywood, IL)The Department of Ophthalmology at the Loyola University Health System (LUHS)/Stritch School of Medicine and the Hines Veterans Administration Hospital (HVA) invites applications for a full-time, clinical-track faculty position for a junior/senior clinician scientist in Uveitis. Board certification and fellowship training in subspecialty as well as eligibility for licensing in Illinois are expected. The successful candidate must demonstrate interest in clinical and/or basic science research. Commitment to providing outstanding clinical care and development/execution of a Uveitis curriculum for resident education are also expected. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with training and experience. The position is available starting January 1, 2014.The Department of Ophthalmology, in collaboration with the Departments of Microbiology and Immunology and along with the Infectious Disease and Immunology Institute, is developing a focus on translational research in the pathophysiology and treatment of ocular inflammation. The Loyola University Medical Center plans to construct a 5 floor research facility which will be completed in 2015. This state of the art facility will house offices and collaborative research space of the Department of Microbiology & Immunology and the Infectious Disease and Immunology Institute. The translational research programs in the Department of Ophthalmology are comprised of 15 full time clinicians and 3 full time PhD scientists, currently housed at the neighboring HVA.LUHS merged with Trinity Health in 2010. In October, 2012 Trinity Health merged with Catholic Health Care East, making it the third largest non for profit in the country (see link below). With LUHS being the only Academic Medical Center in the 80 hospital organization, the opportunities for significant collaborative clinical research are very exciting. The HVA is also planning to build a state of the art, free standing Eye Center with 30 examination rooms by 2015. The current combined LUHS and HVA annual Ophthalmology patient visits exceeds 60,000. The Loyola University Medical Center/HVA campus is located about 20 minutes from downtown Chicago in Maywood, IL.
