Division of Public Health is recruiting for a Public Health Nurse I/II (PHN I/II)

PHN I/II is a full-time generalist position based out of the Ketchikan Public Health Center.

The Public Health Nurse I/II practices with direction of the team leader and the Nurse Manager in all areas of Public Health including immunizations, well child exams, family planning and adolescent health, maternal and newborn care, sexually transmitted diseases, other communicable diseases including tuberculosis surveillance and treatment, and emergency preparedness.

Special Note:
Public Health Nurses are flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the I or II level depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. Please respond to all of the minimum qualification questions.

Candidates not currently licensed in Alaska may apply. A candidate applying under this option may receive a conditional job offer and may begin work after obtaining the required license.

For Public Health Nurse II Level:
Experience in international health, occupational health nursing, or school health nursing may be substituted for a maximum of six months of required public health nursing experience. Credit will be pro-rated on the basis of three months of experience to one month of public health nursing experience. This experience must include identification and assessment of physical and/or emotional problems, referral of any problems requiring further care, and the follow-up of the care provided and assessment to determine the health status and priority needs of a population.

Minimum Qualifications:
Public Health Nurse I:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university OR Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university;

AND

A license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Alaska, or eligible to receive a license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Alaska.

Public Health Nurse II:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university OR Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university;

AND

A license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Alaska, or eligible to receive a license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Alaska.

AND

One year of professional public health nursing experience in a public health organization (tribal, county, city, or state); OR One year of experience as a Public Health Nurse I for the State of Alaska.

Substitution:
A Master’s degree in Nursing or Public Health from an accredited college or university, in addition to the basic educational requirement (Bachelor’s degree in Nursing OR Direct-Entry Master of Science in Nursing), may be substituted for a maximum of one year of public health nursing experience.
