The Mental Health Technician is responsible for assisting in planning and implementing individual patient care and group situational programs to facilitate the treatment of psychiatric inpatients and provide direct care services to patients as necessary. The Mental Health Tech assists patients with activities of daily living and performs a variety of treatment and diagnostic procedures. They also interact collaboratively with other clinical disciplines.
Minimum of (1) year of college (credits earned) is required , preferably in any of the following majors: Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Special Education, Nursing, Healthcare Administration or Medicine. High School diploma or equivalent is required. At least (6) months of direct care experience including individual and group counseling skills is required, preferably in an acute behavioral health care setting or behavioral education setting. Direct care may include but is not limited to professional, formal internship or clinical practicum experience. Knowledge of mental health and/or substance abuse. BLS (CPR-Health Care Provider level Course Certification) is required; may obtain within 6 months of hire date. Must be able to maintain confidentiality of patient information and demonstrate ability to adapt readily to emergency situations. Prior to employment in Adolescent Psychiatry Unit or Psychiatric Float Pool a child abuse clearance by Department of Public Welfare and Pennsylvania State Police, DPW Form CY113 and State Police Criminal History Record will be obtained.
Influenza vaccination will be required for all personnel working within LVHN, who have patient contact, unless medically contraindicated or due to a bonafide religious belief or practice.
At least (1) year of direct care experience including individual and group counseling skill in an acute behavioral health care setting is preferred. Previous experience in direct care in a behavioral health setting and working knowledge of mental health technician practices is preferred.
Licensure and Certifications: BLS (CPR-Health Care Provider level Course Certification is required; may obtain within 6 months of hire date.)
